Astrology in general: part 2

Star light-star bright. Where are all the stars tonight? The various answers will differ dependant upon who you ask, and, mother earths' positional relationship to them in the cosmic universe. In our last written observations the term "precession" was noted and that is where we bump into mother earths' positional relationships to everything else.

"Precession: the slow backward motion of the equinoctial points along the ecliptic, at the rate of 50.2 (sec) annually, caused by the acion of the sun, moon, and planets, upon the protuberant matter about the earth's equator, in connection with its diurnal rotation:--so called because either equinox, owing to its westerly motion, comes to the meridian sooner each day than the point it would have occupied without the motion of precession, and thus precedes that point continually with reference to the time of transit and motion." (Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 Micra, Inc.)

If you think that was a little much, the official scientific definition has even more density! Simply said; mother earth rotates like a spinning top, and has an orbital path around the sun. Like the toy top, she also tilts forward and backward (in relation to the sun), and on this little dance of hers', she tends to wobble on her axis. All this has been going on for, who really knows how long, and it is the cause of her ever-changing positional relationship to the stars and planets.

Now then, there are two main lines so to speak of that have their meaning in all this where astrology comes in. We have mother earths' equatorial and ecliptical lines. Where these lines intersect each other we call the equinoxes. The eclipitcal line is measured in degrees and the equatorial in hours. The meeting point begins at 0 degrees, 0 hour. In astrology, this point is considered to this day, to be in the house of Aries and thereby qualifying it as the first house of the zodiac. One small discreprency here though. Due to mother earths' little dance amidst the cosmos, this 0 degrees 0 hour left the house of Aries a little over 2000 years ago. (yes, "astrologers" and magick workers were charting stars that long ago) So, where is this intersection now ? In the house of Pisces. (remember..westward movement) As astrology goes, we are actually in the Age of Pisces, and accordingly it is the first house. Yes, Pisces. It is not the age of Aquarius. . . yet. ~that comes in about 600 more years~

Okay, so now the reality of the cosmos just burst your astrological bubble. Now what? Well, you can go on with the thoughts and theories you've been subjected to all these years by the "professionals", which seems to do just fine for the masses. Or, you can question such things and seek further knowledge thereof. Simple choice ? Not really. Change never comes easy. (mother earth takes 2800 years to change position) Is there reason to change ? That depends upon you. Your beliefs and practice. Your choice. Over my many years I've been asked more times than I can remember questions like; "Why didn't my magick work?" Or; "My sign is "such", but I don't seem to have most of the attributes of that sign." And one of the more serious questions; "I did my ritual casting on the day/night of the particular planets' transit position I needed, but it still didn't work." Of coarse, there are multiple answers to any of these questions and all are generally related within our subject of astrology.

Coming Next: "Stars of the Zodiac" Until then,

Blessed be thy Steps.
